These students make a valuable contribution to the school community by leading the student voice, support events and overseeing a range of clubs and activities.
All students are encouraged to apply for Prefect positions in Year 10. They are selected through a recruitment process that considers the opinions of peers, staff and the senior leadership team. The prefect term of office runs from May in Year 10, and lasts for one year.

We asked our Senior Prefects to reflect on our school values.

"To me ambition is all about aiming as high as possible. It’s about not getting complacent or being happy with the minimum. It’s about reaching the highest heights you can hit and putting in the hard work to get to that place. Ambition is individual, as everyone should have their own dreams without letting others stifle them. Ultimately it’s a trait we should all carry into everything we do, from academics to sports and everything in between, to get the results we all want and deserve."

"If you ask me, respect means listening to others, considering their thoughts and feelings, and appreciating the experiences that make each person unique.
I believe everyone should be valued for who they are, and that we can learn from people whose experiences and perspectives are different from our own. Speaking with people from different backgrounds while representing Guernsey in Parliament reinforced how crucial it is to listen and embrace diverse viewpoints. I also believe respect extends to the world around us, including our school, its equipment and the environment we share together. As Head Prefect for Respect, I hope to help create a welcoming school community where everyone feels valued, included and respected."

"To me, responsibility is often viewed as acting responsibly in the presence of others. As important as this is, I feel that responsibility to oneself is often overlooked. We have the responsibility to do proud by our own morals, and the responsibility to give our future selves the best opportunities possible by making the correct decisions now. Responsibility is never a rule or law, but rather realising what we do and how we act impacts the community as a whole, and that we all play a role in making it a better place."

"For me, resilience means choosing not to give up even when everything in you wants to. Building resilience starts with small, daily habits, like managing our time or simply showing up even when it's tough. It’s about having the determination to push through even if you don’t want to do it, learning from your mistakes and believing that we come out stronger on the other side. There are days when the weight of everything feels incredibly heavy, and we feel completely hard pressed on every side and yet, somehow, we are never quite crushed. I’ve learnt that our mistakes don’t define us but how we grow from them does. By leading by example, I hope to contribute to an environment where students feel supported, listened to and inspired to stay resilient in everything they do."
Further leadership opportunities throughout the school include House Captains, Subject Prefects and Peer Mentors, as well as the SSAT award. This programme offers an innovative and formal way to champion and celebrate the leadership skills students develop in and out of school, requiring students to create a portfolio in which they gather evidence to showcase their skills.
